AREA SUPERINTENDENT

Reports directly to the Production Manager and has the responsibility of managing the Aggregates line of business. The Area Superintendent must be able to assume responsibility of managing the entire aggregates hourly and salaried staff in manufacturing/processing aggregate products while ensuring that Safe Production is achieved and that the product quality standards are maintained at the highest possible level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Responsible for all aspects related to financial performance, production, safety, staffing and operations of 500k ton multi-quarry operations.
Operations consist of 5 operating quarries with one portable plant and one stripping crew.
Requires significant and ongoing coordination and collaboration with sales department to meet customer (internal and external) needs and to match production with anticipated demand in the most efficient manner possible.
Must possess strong communication, goal setting and people skills to be able to provide sound direction, motivation, leadership, and training to personnel.
Must be able and proactive in identifying and resolving regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, in a timely, safe, compliant and effective manner.
Requires in-depth understanding of broader business (HMA, construction, ready-mix) to create synergies with other lines of business and value for customers.
3 Operating direct reports (Stripping Foreman, Plant Foreman, Office Manager) plus associated support staff with 25 hourly personnel.
Ideal candidate would have broad experience in similar role with potential to advance and should have the skills and abilities to achieve the next level in a
Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with company, federal, state and local regulations, including MSHA, EPA, DNR, DEQ, DOL, etc.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and work rules; Provide effective leadership through positive reinforcement and discipline when necessary.
Set challenging/attainable goals for staff and document employee performance.

Other Requirements

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers, regulatory agencies and the general public at all times.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company?s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.
Planning, assigning, and directing work.
Manage employee performance and development through coaching, feedback (written and verbal) throughout Aggregates Department.
Ability and desire to develop subordinates? technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

Personal Protective Equipment

Dedication to the Safe Production of aggregate products is absolutely mandatory. Individuals are required to personally wear and ensure 100% employee conformance with personal protective equipment (PPE) usage in designated operations and production areas.
At a minimum, protective equipment required for this position: Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hat, Eye protection, High Visibility Clothing, Respiratory Protection and Safety (Steel toe) Shoes.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor?s Degree, preferably in Construction or Mining, highly preferred.
Individuals must have a strong background in aggregates production, project management, estimating, and construction.
Portable crushing plant experience also preferred.
